Questions & Answers

Work groups are appointed by the Board of Directors to implement a plan that will help achieve ICDA's Mission to support national dietetic associations and their members, beyond national and regional boundaries, by achieving:

      An integrated communications system
An enhanced image for the profession
Increased awareness of standards of education, training and practice in dietetics

Building An Integrated Communications System:

  • Maintain the ICDA web site: Working with experienced national dietetic associations to build content of interest to Dietitians around the world and others interested in the profession of dietetics and its advancement.

  • Enhance Dietetics Around the World: The ICDA newsletter is a key vehicle for communication among ICDA Members. Promoting and encouraging articles from national dietetic associations and their members is a priority.

  • International Congress of Dietetics in 2012 and in 2016: The Dietitians Association of Australia will host the Congress in 2012 and the Spanish Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists will host the Congress in 2016 as an important forum for information sharing and exchange. Symposia to build common ground and promote international professional standards are important objectives for each Congress.

Enhancing The Image Of The Profession Globally

  • Representation and collaboration with international organizations: Reaching out and collaboration with international organizations to address important issues will raise awareness of the contributions of Dietitians and add value to the work of ICDA.

  • Develop and promote of an image that reflects common principles of dietetic practice: Development of international professional standards is ongoing work of ICDA. The current objectives are to promote adoption of international standards by dietetic associations to build common understanding for an international statement on evidence-based practice in nutrition and dietetics.

Increase Awareness Of Standards Of Dietetic Education, Training And Practice

  • Make information available: Reports on the Education and Work of Dietitians are published on the site every four years.  Since 2004, international standards have been published for the definition of Dietitian, education of dietitians, code of ethics, and code of good practice in nutrition and dietetics.

  • A solid plan for promoting standards: Member Associations are encouraged to use their opportunities to promote the international professional standards. ICDA uses the International Congress of Dietetics as a venue for building awareness of international professional standards and for building consensus among Dietitians and their national dietetic associations on international professional standards.
